It’s a great read! What I appreciated most is how the book centres on the idea of “disciplined leadership”. It is a strong reminder that leadership takes intention and deliberate action. The book is full of practical nuggets on core leadership topics, from leading yourself and others to leading a board and navigating a crisis. It is also thoughtfully structured. The “Founder Story” segments bring the ideas to life through real examples. The “Monday Reflection” prompts invite you to pause and reflect, while the “Monday Ready” sections challenge you to apply the lessons immediately. This is a useful read for all leaders, but it is particularly relevant for founders building and scaling a company.

What change are you going to make on Monday? That’s the question all leaders should be asking themselves week-in, week-out, in this compelling new business coaching book by Dane Hudson. Although written from his experience as a CEO, consultant and coach, Danes’s practical and commonsense approach makes this a must read for all leaders and aspiring leaders, whatever your company or profession. What we do and how we do it matters. Professional competence will get you only so far, after that it’s leadership that matters, and how your behaviours impact everyone else really matters. The structure and content of the book provides well-organised relatable principles, together with ideas that you can try or adapt for your own organisation or circumstances. Having known of Dane and his business for a number of years, it is exactly the sort of learning you would hope to achieve if you were able to get coaching from him directly. For me, Discipline beats Vision deserves to sit on the bookshelf with Stephen Covey’s, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and James Clear’s, Atomic Habits. Yes, there are other business school classics, but this is a practical book that will help everyone who works in a team environment, way beyond its intended audience of managing start-ups. My suggestion for this Monday is buy yourself a copy and start implementing!

I would highly recommend this book to any growth company CEO trying to take their company from good to great.

A well written, approachable and practical support for any leader. Great resource for those that do not have a mentor and would like some coaching, as well as many tips, reminders, reflections and disciplines for those who do. An excellent resource that can be read and reread.

Apart from being the most practical book on business leadership I've ever read, it covers so many other important aspects of being a successful leader that are rarely addressed. The 'stories' bring to life the various teachings with great humility and clear experience. It could easily be an MBA textbook and would likely be voted the most valuable by students later in their careers, as it will serve them as a trusted guidebook on difficult journeys.
